Many, many plants in Florida are unfamiliar to me. I have to clear a lot of these out.Those ropy things seem to be roots and can grow out of any part of the stem. They're not hard to cut and when you do they're a clean looking yellow for a few minutes, then they ooze a bright, translucent, red fluid. They're fairly easy to clear away, but the sheer bulk makes them a nusance.
