Hearing Miley Cirus doing "Santa Baby" got me thinking about vocals and song remakes. Eartha Kitts amazing sweet vocals and courtesan intonation contrast vividly with Miley Cyrus' brassy and humorous take on what has become an old standard (don't get me wrong, I really like it). Since I don't speak French, I listen to the voice as an instrument. "c'est si bon" just the voice even with the bits of understandable english is like listening to classical music to me. All the recordings I've head of Earth Kitt have been done as show tunes with overly loud "cabaret" music backing her. But just pay attention to the voice.
Don't worry, I'll get to santa baby at some point. Both versions. For now when you hear someone saying "life is good", here is someone who really means it.
